Another insane night at diego and josh’s

7:23 pm. I’m in my room making weird beats, diego is asleep on his laptop listening to a synth loop. We so crazy.

I went to church last night

….the Music gallery to be specific which is in a church, and was lucky enough to see the amazingly innovative, talented and mot importantly FUN percussion quartet TorQ. They’re four super nice guys from U of T who have a really unique sound as group, make a big commitment to performing new works by young composers, and have a great time doing it. It’s so refreshing to see a group of complete professionals in the stereo typically “classical” genre having a blast playing music. Here’s a couple samples from the concert that I took last night, and plan on making a few pieces based around some of them. My little H4 doesn’t do the giant 4 octave marimba justice, but check it out . . . .

I like my ceiling

and I made a shaker today that sounds nice on a tune I’m working on for a friend. here’s just the drum track, it’ll be real pretty when it’s all done…

settling up

Finally got some drum recording stuff set up today. I’m keeping it quiet at first and letting my upstairs neighbors warm up the idea that a drummer lives below them. I want to show them that it’s ok. I want them to not be afraid. We’ll get through this. This helps me get through a lot - -

and this is what I made, just trying out some sounds in the room and getting an idea of what I can/can’t/shouldn’t/would like to do.

when I sit here

I hear this -

Lots of birds, why are they all still here? What do they know that I don’t? Are they trying to tell me something?

put it on your fridge like a report card

I’ve been making lots of stuff lately and have over looked a few things I started writing a few months back, probably because I have the terrible habit of naming folders things like “Untitled-1″, and “drumthing/dist.loud-3″. Here’s one that I completely forgot about that I’m working on now, I think it’ll be fun.

and in other news, this was posted on Devo’s fridge.

My wonderful friend Valery Gore is releasing her second cd tomorrow night at supermarket, and it’s going to be great. I’ll be there shaking some stuff and making weird noises on small electro boxes, and she’ll be there singing and playing her ass off. In all seriousness it’s a great record, one of the best of the year I think, and you should all buy it here. Immediately.

Dear Festiva

You’re my little cow car, black and white and all good. Thanks for still running so smoothly even though it’s cold outside. I can almost fit you in my freight elevator where you could be nice and warm, but my superintendent would probably get mad at me. I know you understand. I’m working on a little song made out of the sounds of your emergency brake, but for now here’s a little ad in french that I think is really funny. I love. you.

i think you’re

That’s what I see every morning directly outside my door, I like it. Here’s a new tune that’s shaping up that I spent some time with this weekend. Missing some elements but has some others that I dig.

need more time.

Lots of stuff on the go right now, spent the morning working with Sarah Kurtis on her ep, and I’m really excited about it. it’s my first real tackling of a bigger project as a producer and we’re happy with how it’s coming together. Hopefully we’ll be done by Christmas? We’ll see, I’ll throw some things up here soon.
Also working on a new duo record with Joanna which I think is going to be all over the map, and really interesting. Lots of pretty sounds, weirdo beats, and whatever else we feel like. here’s a weido beat that I made last night to give you an idea where things may head, but maybe completely not.
