remixing

(on facebook? go to www.joshuavt.com for the full post)

Working on a remix for Christine Bougie’s ridiculously great new record Aloha Supreme, out very soon with a cd release party happening November 21st at the Tranzac. You should really go. Here’s a bit of what’s happening with it, I’ll post the whole thing when it’s done if Boug says it’s cool. One of the best parts about remixing anything is that I get to hear all the original isolated tracks from the tune, which means I get to put my good friend and favorite producer Dean Drouillard under the microscope. It’s a cool way to learn/blatantly steal ideas. Sorry Dean.

Had a really fun quick intro to New York on the weekend. It’s a busy, really interesting, fun city. It didn’t blow my mind and make me want to pack up everyting I have or don’t and move down there tomorrow, but I’d definitely love to go back. I had an experience that border lined on religious in Maxwell’s Drum Shop when the really great staff member showed me Elvin Jones‘ drum kit that he toured with, and that he came in a dropped off/set up at the store. It’s literally a museum in there. Took a few pictures but recorded more sounds then anything. I find more they help me remember things clearer and in a broader way then by just having a visual. There’s not really much depth to a picture taken by a device that’s primarily a device used to make phone calls, as fancy as the iphone may be. At least not in my hands.

I played a crazy gig that the King of Sweden was at, who is also the coolest man in Europe for sure.

And getting ready to go to New York with Kate Rogers which is exciting to me, because I’m a chump and have never been. Other stuff on the go too, but that’s the update for now….

today’s today

A bridge part that was supposed to work super well in a tune but never ended up finding it’s way in. I may use it for something? Maybe? This is a perfect example of why home recording can be so great, I have the luxury to be able to make lots and lots of mistakes. I can try every weird idea and sound that crosses my mind because I’m not paying xx number of dollars to make a record. Totally liberating, though dangerously easy to go overboard. Which is what happened here.

At least now I know.

Also did a CIUT radio how with Kate Rogers this morning on the U of T campus. It’s super pretty there this time of year, almost makes a fellow want to go back and learn something. Maybe something useful to humanity like framing or map making. We got to do the session together in a very large, old well lit room and it was nice. The photo is blurry, I know. Geez.

…….is a damned fine human and a just as fine a leather craftsman. He and my mom have been working in the custom leather work/shoe repair trade for more then 25 years now, and recently they set up a shop on Etsy to get into the online business of being online. He’s been lately making some really awesome guitar straps, and you can see lots of photos and info on the site. have a look, and buy one instantly.
