5:15 today
….and I realized I hadn’t really gone outside yet. Actually, I haven’t at all.That’s just sad.
Here’s a bit of what we did today, class. Things are starting to come along, lots of ideas, I just need to focus on a few of them. I’m starting to hear what I want to hear though which is a step forward.

I’m quite late today, it’s a busy weekend and my computer is in the garage for a little overhaul, so these are pirate posts from undisclosed locations. Maybe even from your computer……were you on it all day? Did you let it out of your sight, even for a minute? I was there.

Here’s a tune that I started Friday and haven’t been able to get to again. It’s an intro, but once everything gets happening it’ll be somewhat interesting.
I’m also in the studio doing some work with a fantastic singer songwriter percussionist/great musician named Ainsley McNeaney. I’ve been sneaking some great sounds on the sly, I’ll throw them here tomorrow. I hope the weekend is going great for all so far.

So here’s a little folk tune that’s coming along called Raccoon Face. If anyone is there let me know what you think. About the tune. Or just in general as well, about whatever.
ps- I went to see Juno last night and I loved it. Go see it, right now if you can.

I’m a lucky man and had the Nunc Scio creator and blogger master chief cook up a mean brunch this morning for a few lucky people. I also had a great rehearsal with stop.die.resuscitate and saw the a rough cut of a video for one of our songs. It involves a kid’s drumset, toy piano, black robed white faced monsters, and feathers. That’s all I’ll say for now…..the release is on January 26th at the Drake Hotel, if you’re free. and feel like dancing.
Today’s post is an experiment that didn’t really work, but I guess you learn as much if not more from these type of things then when everything sounds great. In that case here it is. It’s kind of like putting up a bad picture of yourself and having people get to look at it and draw their own conclusions about what kind of person you are. So here’s a comprising posting of an experiment and a worse driver’s license photo ( although the fact that I finally got an Ontario d.l. makes my mom very happy).

Ideas come to us in weird places and at awkward time, but this one was while I was at home, which is a good place to have them. It’s not a tune yet, but it’s a start. Maybe it’ll never be a tune, who knows, that’s what this is for. In other news, I got my first professional massage today and I now feel a bit crazy. Very relaxed, but crazy. They tell me this is normal.
My monitor sees and hears it all.Â

Here’s a snippet of something from a piece I’m almost done with. Sometimes simple things are the ones that mean the most, to me anyway.
I’m playing with a great bunch of people in a band called The Outlanders at the Central this Friday night, it should be tons of fun. Please come on down.
I wear these more then pants lately.

As I’ve discovered this weekend, I work best when I actually give myself some form of really regimented schedule to work from. If I don’t follow it, I end up shuffling around like a confused old man, grumbling about squirrels on my lawn, rubbing my eyes, and occasionally picking up an instrument. That just isn’t productive, but mildly entertaining for onlookers I guess. Like the squirrels. Who watch me practive from the window. I’m not even joking, I’ll have a picture soon, I promise.
As part of this schedule, I’m going to put up a tune that’s in progress every Monday, and try and keep it related to the sounds I’ve found or previously used this week. Up today? Yesterday’s ice noises. They fit well in the intro to a folk-y little number I’m working on. Let me know if you have a strong physical reaction to it and it should be taken away immediately, or otherwise. I’ll be back later, my scheduled rambling time is over . .. . . .
Do it, all the kids are, you’ll fit, people will like you, c’mon……

So I’ve been messing about with the escalator sound this morning and this is what I’ve come up with so far. I can tell it’s time to leave a sound alone when my right eye does a bit of a weird twitch and I have trouble forming normal sentences. Maybe this will get used in something, maybe not. If anyone wants it, it’s yours.
I hope your weekend is off to a great start. I saw “There Will be Blood” last night, and it was great. I heard a ridiculous conversation outside the theatre between 3 guys trying to convince another that PT Anderson’s movies were all just huge long sexual inuendoes.
The argument – ” dude, did you see all the phallic shaped objects in that movie? There was like, huge close ups of oil rigs and pipeline all over the place!!”
Well, that’s because it’s a movie about pipelines and oil rigs. My trusty recorder couldn’t get turned on fast enough to catch those geniuses, sadly. Have a good afternoon . .
